The Future Screen

Engadget was able to get some video of a new resistive screen from a company called Stantum that will permit multitouch on a resistive screen (the type of screens Windows generally uses that require pressure as opposed to the iPhone’s that require a finger/electric touch). So Stantum has software enhancements that allow for true multitouch and when you see it in action it’s pretty impressive. Unfortunately, it also requires specialized hardware so there won’t be a Fuze upgrade…but we can always dream about the Touch Pro 3:)

The preasure sensitivity is impressive. I have always wanted a Wacom style screen on a handheld device, and the ability to use a paint brush? On a touch screen??? Wow.

I know, this screen looks like a real beast.

Wow! With proper calibration, you’ll be able to measure (light) weight using the screen. Also opens up the possibility of using a 3D user interface (adding a sense of ‘depth’, where lighter touch – closer, heavier touch – further away).
Very nice, really.

it is cool, but lets be honest, my fuze touch response is fine for the uses I use it for. that is very cool, but it has to relate to an actual usable function to be a real resource.

i thought that multi touch was a software thing. that’s why the g1 was able to do it.
