Take Control Of Your LEDs – The Hardware Edition
It’s one thing to change your background to the FuzeBerry theme but it’s entirely another thing to physically change your Fuze. The rewards are high (well neat at least) and the penalty is merely voiding your warranty while putting your precious at risk:) So if you’re up for it get out the screw driver, solder gun and spare LEDs and go to town:)
Ok, I doubt many of you are going to do this but I still salute those of you with the knowledge and courage to do this. It’s definitely a neat mod. And opening your phone to replace LEDs is admired.
The complete thread is located here at PPCGeeks and those LEDs in the picture belong to bigshady and saumaun.

That is very cool BUT YOU ARE NUTS if you try to do it. I can see many people destroying their phones very easily!
/!\ Don’t do this /!\
Unless you have experience with DIY electronics and have all the equipment needed, ESD mat/strap… I wouldn’t do it.
I have five years professional experience as well as more as a DIYer and this is riskay indeed. Besides all the solder, flux, ESD mishaps that could happen, different colored LEDs draw different amounts of current, and you run the risk of killing your device slowly.
I applaude the effort. I agree it takes a degree of lunacy but for anyone that does it I think it’s neat…slow and steady:)
except for the LED ring, which would be harder to do….a thin piece of colored film over the inside of the front cover would be much safer. I use to mod stuff like this, but, as other posters have said, if you don’t know what you are doing, DON’T! SMD’s are very hard to deal with, and if the LED’s you use are not the same current, you could really wreck something.

I wouldn’t recommend replacing the LEDs. They’re very very tiny, and you need super-steady hands and a very small tip on your soldering iron. Seriously, you’ll brick your phone. I’ve had years of experience (I’m an electrical engineer), and even I’m too afraid to do it.
An effective way to brick a $500 phone. Still looks cool though.
