Put More Teeth Into Your Bluetooth

bluestarterBluetooth has become a part of most of our daily lives and there are two apps that aren’t new (they’ve been in our forums) but we never discussed…so may as well do it now:)

The first is BlueStarter which will automatically launch an application when a bluetooth connection is established. So you can launch your GPS application or your media player for example.  Even better, it can be configured based on the bluetooth device so you can set it to launch GPS or NaviPanel  when your cars bluetooth is located and start your media player when your stereo headset is detected. This is the work of paulwal of XDA and you can follow the thread in XDA here or go to his website for the download here.

While we’re talking about bluetooth headsets, AutoA2DP from xiaojin1985 of XDA will automatically set your device to connect as a stereo headset since the WM default is to just connect as hands free. So now you get both and your bluetooth headset will automatically connect as it should. Chadster214 tested it out in our forums and was impressed.

So there you have it, two programs that let you do more with bluetooth. Remember, if you like their apps you should buy some coffee for the developers.

Interesting, but I must be missing something. I setup the application to open WMP when I turn my stereo Bluetooth headhpones on. Running the test from within the application works fine, but when I turn the headphones on, nothing happens. I have the Interval set to “on Power Button Pressed (wake up)”, so I tried powering phone down and up again, with the headphone connected and nothing. Also tried powering up headphones right after wake up (assuming there is a time interval) but no go.

I would expect the application to poll for new Bluetooth connections, but that does not seem to be the case. It may need a little more work.

jimski- are you using a screen locker?

I’m sure this is a stupid question, but with I have the new jawbone. Would I see any benefit to using the app that will connection my headset as a stereo headset?

@DavidK – I use the built-in screen lock/unlock to lock the screen before I tap the Power button, but in my testing I didn’t bother to turn on the screen lock. I turned off the screen and then woke it up 30 seconds later. Would this screen lock interfere with the Blue Starter functionality?

Maybe there needs to be a longer interval before I wake the screen up. I will test it again tonight, this time giving it more like 5 minutes or so. I would like to get this to work.

Does the jawbone let you listen to music over it? When you connect in bluetooth settings if you see ’stereo headset’ then it does. All this app does is trigger it. Of course, you can also use the other app to autolaunch the phone dialer for example when it connects…

OK, so I tried BlueStarter again but this time I waited several minutes between power down/wake up and it worked. You have to turn your headphones (or other device) on before waking up the phone as the software polling period is only about 3-5 seconds.

I tried it with the screen lock active and it seems to work even if I don’t turn the lock off within the 3-5 second polling period (WMP appears to open in the background). When I do unlock the screen, WMP is open and waiting.

FYI, when setting up the application to run at discovery, you need to use syntax like; \\windows\wmplayer.exe to point to the executable that you want to launch.

No the jawbone doesn’t let me listen to music, so this wouldn’t help then, huh.
