PTT Remapping Revisited (Application)

PTT Remap Way back on November 16 I posted a step by step tutorial on how to remap your PTT button. And it worked provided that you were willing to manually make a series of changes to your registry and perform a lot of other manual tasks that ultimately worked for most people. Well, the days of going through your registry step by step are over. XDA member xcsdm has created an application that once installed will permit you to go to Settings – Buttons and assign your PTT button to a long and short press by simply picking an application in the same manner as you could for the Long Send button. So now there’s no more manual tweaking, just a question of installing the application and selecting its function so it’s quick and simple and best of all it works.

Some users complained that they were still receiving the PTT warning (that they were going to be charged for using PTT) even after installing the application so I reworked xcsdm’s cab to include a few registry values to overwrite the PTT application so it will stop the PTT popup from occurring.

So, if you have a ROM that has the PTT button disabled or if you have already manually disabled the PTT warning then install the original application from xcsdm here from our forums or here from XDA. If you have a stock ROM that has not had the PTT button disabled then install the version that I added a few registry values here. Once installed you should go to Start – Settings – Buttons to change the functions. if you wish to re-enable the PTT button for any reason there is a cab located in the Windows directory named RaphaelPTT…cab that will do it.  If you don’t know how to install an application then read this.

All thanks and credit go once again to xcsdm who created this application and thank you to the testers in our forums who tested this app.

UPDATE: Several people left comments stating that after a soft reset the soft PTT button was no longer an options in the buttons setting. If you experience it here is the workaround. Navigate to the \Windows directory and you will see a file named Short_PTT.lnk. You just need to replace that shortcut with the shortcut of your desire. You can use the instructions here to create a shortcut and then just rename it short_ptt.lnk and overwrite the existing file in the \windows directory and it will become your PTT short assignment and will survive a soft reset. It is a little manual but far better than the previous all manual version.

[...] UPDATE: New method (just install an application to remap) located here http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=2140 [...]

I just installed this cab and I had not previously disabled my PTT button but now I am receiving the same error this was designed to fix, namely the application I set launches but I still get the PTT charges popup. I am running stock ROM and fuzeberry 7.5 skin for TF3D. I wouldn’t expect the TF3D skin to affect this but maybe it does. Any ideas?

KHTar – did you install the right version? The second one (with FM in the name of the app) should disable the PTT functionality. It may require a soft reset because it is a registry tweak.

You know I was thinking that I might need to do a sof reset, but the post didn’t mention it, so I thought I was ok. Shoulda thought about it more. Anyhow the rest worked and everything is working as intended.

Thanks

good to hear – thanks for the update

I’m running s stock Fuze ROM and had not previously done anything to PTT. I ran the Cab posted above that included the “Added Registry Values” and then did a soft reset. I no longer get the “Do you want to initialize PTT?” option when I press the button, but when I go to my button assignments I don’t see a PTT Button Option there. I have Buttons 1, 2, 3, 4, Long Send and OK. Did I do something wrong?

David K –

I installed your version of the .cab, and performed a soft reset. It worked perfectly except that at first Settings –> Buttons only gave me the PTT (Hold) option. After I set that (for Google Maps), I went back to Settings –> Buttons and another option simply labeled “Button” had appeared. THAT one was for the PTT short press.

So now it’s working perfectly. Thanks for this great stuff!!

works as stated…Thanks again for the great tweaks!

nice. been too lazy to do all the other tweaks.

ps- at first only the long press showed up. but existing and then reentering the buttons settings made the short press appear.

Update — worked the same for me as for surly. Problem is, every time I do a soft reset the short press disappears (entry and functionality), and has to be revived by reentering the long-press settings.

i just have to laugh, last night i stayed up way longer than i should have doing all the registry changes, manually of course and tonight i read this. go figure…
love it though, cant get enough of this stuff, wife thinks im nuts. oh well she is a great first wife… ouch she just hit me!

Probably a stupid question, but where is the link to the actual app?

hyperlinks are in the artcile- underlined int he paragraph beginning “So, if you have a ROM that has the PTT button disabled”

Does anyone know how to map the drop down Start Menu to the PTT button? I can’t seem to find any way to do it because I can’t find the target to create the shortcut with.

Thanks for any ideas.

hi,
i installed the custom registry edited version because i had not disabled ptt before but i still keep getting the error message…it’s annoying! any fixes/suggestions/ideas??

nikhil – did you restart your phone after installing the cab? It is required since it’s a registry change.

I installed it and changed the assignment setting for long send, button and PTT Hold, did a soft restart, and nothing happens now when I hit the PTT.

I installed the same way as Dan. Did the soft reset. Nothing happens. I’ve tried assigining several different applications to the functions of the PTT just to make sure it wasn’t an applicaton I was choosing.

If you cannot get a short PTT press to work read the ‘update’ at the end of the posting for the solution.

Hey man, this works like a charm. Thanks for awesome work and saving manual hours for guys like us. You d man.

It works pretty well. I have a problem every time I soft restart. The long press will stay as I left it, short press will go to .net configuration. Is there something I can do to keep it constant (I had it mapped to the camera)? I’m running the You Know Who black ROM.

Addam – see the UPDATE at the end of the posting

Can some one help me with developing a link. I have remapped the ptt key and downloaded the startmenue.exe but can’t seem to develop a .lnk for use to map to the ptt button. Any help would be appreciated. I have read the remap ptt but still no luck.

Thanks

Excellent! PTT has been an annoyance to me since it’s inception because I resent people broadcasting their calls in restaurants, etc. Now you have helped me to avoid the other annoyance of this button always wanting to initialize PTT and thereby charge me for it…

Thanks!

Nice Cab file. However I found that the registry settings for the short press are incomplete, the settings for the long press are complete, and copying several of the incomplete keys over fixed it for me. Might want to take a look and update the cab. Thanks again.

works perfectly..thanks..that PTT was annoying….now i have a better use for it.

Is there any way to remap Sprint TouchPro’s Long-Press End Key to do other things besides the ones listed as options in the Setting menu, systems tab, Long Press End Key? I want to be able to assign any program to the Long-Press End Key the same way that I can do with Long-Press Talk button. Thank you.

long end requires an app to remap. At least on a Fuze creating a shortcut to long_end.lnk does not work.
