PointUI Home 2 is RELEASED (and free:))
For those of you that are not huge TF3D fans or if you just want to try a streamlined and fast home screen UI you should know that PointUI officially released Home2 (which is a follow up to Home that was very smooth). Speed is reported as very good and I’d expect it to be generally finger friendly and without kinks. For now only the Free version is available but a more robust Pro version is in the works.
You can add up to 6 applets to the home screen and this give you new screens for folders, contacts and other management. So this is more than just a home screen replacement – it is a user interface replacement that’s deeper than just the home screen.
Download is available from here. This is a beta so please report back any positive or negative experiences if you give it a go.

OK, I managed to download this real quick and get it installed. So far I have suffered from 2 random freezes!
After playing around with it and knowing that this is the free version, I find it to be very limited.
Wow- the initial XDA reviews were positive… they just complained that the free version left a lot of empty space that needed filling:)
So far, runs great & looks great (if not a bit blurry in some sections). I’ve had a couple of small hiccups, but i believe they’re most likely Resco Contacts beta induced. Other than that, it’s seems lite enough and smooth enough to run daily for a while.
When trying to install the cab file, I immediately get the cab message that it was unsuccessfully intalled. Any ideas. I hope I am using the correct version VGA/WVGA?
How will this work if I just want to test it out. Can I just disable TouchFlo, install the cab, and check this as a today plugin? Is it easy to go back to touchflo if I don’t like it?
You can test and uninstall with no problem…and yes you can disable TF3d and run Point UI and go back without any problems.
My only gripe is the weather cities do not have much to offer. I live near Philly and I don’t care what the weather in NY is…Hopefully they will update.
@Dave Zaff
I’m guessing that the Pro version will include the weather cities database as this is the minimal free version. I do have to say it’s allot snappier than TF3D.
Thanks to everyone that answered my questions.
I can’t even imagine TF3D after using this… I don’t have to wait for anything to load up.
I do have a couple very minor gripes. One is that the favorite contacts button should be the one to the far left instead of the recent call activity button. It makes more sense to put the most used button in the first position. Also, I know I can just push the send key to bring up the keypad but I really think there should be a button for that. My girlfriend has trouble using my phone as a phone since it seems like every option is available except the number pad.
Other than those few things I don’t think I really need much more than what it offers, even though I’m sure people will script some cool applets once it’s fully released.
SC Davis gave instructions on setting the city for weather here: http://www.ppcmobility.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4306#post4306
well I installed this and tried it. I have been looking for ANYTHING to potentially compete and compare to spb mobile shell.
I find this program slick and with A LOT of potential, but it is not there yet. Maybe the pro version will have a lot more features (and all the cities for the weather feature).
I do like the direction in general this program is going, but I just don’t think it compares with mobile shell yet.
@Matt –
I actually find it to be a lot less snappy that TF3D. I keep getting slowdowns in PointUI whenever -anything- in the background is doing something.
That said, I’m on qsqa’s Proven1.14a ROM (with your Fuzeberry 5.0 installed), and his 1.1x ROMS seem to be way faster for TF3D than any others I’ve tried. I don’t know what the secret sauce is, but both the original theme from the ROM and yours are much more fluid than I’ve seen operating on any other ROM.
I’d say PointUI for me has been comperable in snappiness to the way TF3D has been on other ROMs.
Meh, was not impressed with this at all. I think Ill stick with TF3D and TouchWiz (yes I have Samsung’s TouchWiz on my Fuze and switch back and fourth between the two).
[...] for some of that customization. I’m sure you’ll all remember about two months ago when PointUI Home 2 Free was released and it got generally good reviews but people wanted more. Well more is on the way. PointUI has [...]
I’ve been using this for weeks and there are already a ton of great applets in the community section of the site! It’s quick and the applets add a ton of functionality. There are several weather applets that make adding any city a snap. Give this UI a fair shake it’s been great for me

Saw this incidentally minutes after it was posted on pointui’s site. I’ve had a terrible habit of checking daily and observing the somewhat of a ‘flame war’ on xda. Mainly due to my eagerness to give this a go and my utter addiction to changing my phones ‘look’ every chance I get. Intalling now and I can’t wait to try the ‘pro’ version when it finally hits.
Good info – thanks to all contributors here for keeping us up to speed on all things Fuze. It’s almost like being addicted to addiction
