Opera 10 Is Here!
Opera keeps finding ways to improve on an already great mobile browser. The folks in Olso have just released a beta version of Opera 100 for Windows Mobile phones. Here’s what Opera has to say for itself:
10 ways that Opera Mobile 10 works for you
- Intuitive new interface Opera has thrown out the clutter and is keeping it simple in terms of aesthetics. Less is more when it comes to mobile browsing.
- Speed Dial Speed Dial serves as your personal table of contents for the Web. Your favorite sites welcome you upon launching Opera, and in one click, you are there.
- Tabbed browsing Open new links in multiple tabs to bounce between sites easily.
- Password manager Save those annoying passwords with Opera’s password manager, or if you are feeling vulnerable, simply and swiftly delete all.
- Touchscreen navigation Opera Mobile 10 beta is optimized for touchscreen navigation. With a touchscreen phone, you can enjoy even easier navigation with our new adaptive zoom feature, kinetic scrolling, and visual tab thumbnails.
- Save images Select and save your friends’ Facebook pictures to your phone for offline viewing later.
- Opera Turbo Offload your page rendering to one of Opera’s servers, and reduce your data costs.
- Advanced compatibility Since Opera Mobile 10 beta is based on Opera’s browser for desktop computers, it maintains advanced Web-site compatibility and ensures that nearly any site is accessible from a mobile phone.
- Smooth surfing Pan, zoom and smoothly scroll your way through the Web.
- It is free! Opera Mobile 10 beta for Windows Mobile is available as a free download at www.opera.com/mobile/ or m.opera.com/mobile/ (for phone download).
Remember that it is still in beta, so it’s a bit buggy. Here’s a link to a video on Pocketnow.com that shows you how it works.

looks like they kinda merged the lines between opera mobile and opera mini. hopefully its as good as 9.7. looks like they carried those neat tabby panels over from the latest build of 9.7.
I have the Tilt 2, and Ive been using the Opera Mini 5b since it came out. Other than a problem going from landscape to portrait mode, this browser is better than all others in almost every way. Obviously, there is no flash support, but when Im searching the web on my phone, I need something that looks good, and is quick. This is 10 times faster than Skyfire, or Opera Mobile. How do I make this my default browser? I’m using wm 6.5 w/ TF3D 2.1. The Internet tab is currently setup to use Opera 9.7 (which locks up the phone as soon as it’s started up.
@dookie: I just installed Opera 10 on my Fuze and it automatically became the default browser from my Sense (new version of TF3D) Internet tab.
@drjim: No luck for me. Runs fine from the programs tab in 2.1. But from the internet tab, it still tries to load up 9.7 and then hangs.
I’m liking 10 much better than 9.7 so far.
Maybe this is a coincidence, but it looks like Opera 10 has some major caching issues. I installed it and then went to a few pages and now my phone has no more storage space on it.
Got 100/100 on the acid 3 which was nice to see though.
Wow, things have really turned around since a couple of years ago when there weren’t any good choices for browsers for Windows Mobile. I have seven (count ‘em) browsers installed on my Fuze now: PIE, Opera 9.5, Skyfire, Iris, Opera Mini 5 beta, Bolt, and Opera 10 beta. I’ve been mostly using Iris, with an occasional launch of Bolt when I’m in a hurry. So far, after about ten minutes of playing around, I like the new Opera quite well. I’m happy that it’s easy to turn off the “Turbo” mode for security (and they say they won’t use their proxy for https connections, in any event).
I’ll keep using Opera 10 beta for a while to see what I run into, but from what I’ve seen to this point it looks like a keeper.
plenty of improvements clearly.. noting another right now filling out this form submission with ease.
Starting to dig through opera:config to see what’s doing. Lots of items of interest there, I suggest you check it out, very different. Sad to see hard keyboard-out on landscape not disabling landscape SIP. Also when reading a lot of text like here or a slashdot thread Opera doesn’t nestle itself so rigidly to what it identifies as your vertical grid (meaning now if you scroll a little left and right as you scroll down it is not forgiving as it used to).
Wonder what the smooth scrolling thing (disabled by default) does. Also wonder if they figured how to get the browser to function on turbo mode while still managing to keep you logged in to whatever site. Guess I’ll keep fiddling.

While I like the Speed Dial page making easier to quickly hit your favorite links, I’ve already experienced problems with two pages that I check from my phone often.
