2D barcode advertising is most definitely coming your way but it probably won’t be with Microsoft’s Tag system, which is, as usual, proprietary. Microsoft would love for everyone to adopt their proprietary system, but the cell carriers have already gotten behind an open-standard, non-proprietary system.

An excellent free reader that handles all the for WinMO that handles all the current non-proprietary codes can be had here:

You need to go there with your phone since using a PC will redirect you.

It will not detect your phone, so you need to click through to manually choose.

From the list, you can choose Windows Mobile. This brings you to a page where it allows you to download the generic version, which works fine on WinMo.

After this, do a Google image search for ‘QR Codes’ this will get you thousands of results you can try out.

These little codes are sneaking onto all kinds of things in North America! They are already big in Japan and are covering Europe.

I’ve set up some tags for my WM6.5 FuzeBerry Edition and Titanium Nights themes to see how it works . So far, so good and now they can be downloaded directly to your device just by snapping the tag.
