In Call Screen Timeout SOLVED (Really:) )
I know we’ve tried on multiple occasions to solve what should be a simple problem – when on a call on your Touch Pro the screen times out and turns off forcing you to hit the power key or the center of the dpad to bring it back on. It’s a nuisance when trying to use the keypad or use your phone at all since it requires a little more hand juggling. Well the registry tweaks have failed (the best one required changing the gsen polling to an unacceptable level) and other solutions were not reproducible (including the one that was working on my Fuze:) ) And while the new leaked Fuze ROM is rumored to solve the so-called ‘fast sleep’ issue, a new solution has come out that actually works for all of us. The reason it works: it is not based on the registry. This is an application that during a phone call monitors the angle of the phone. If the phone is facing screen up the screen is turned on and if the phone is vertical (like up to your ear) the screen turns itself off. And you’ll see that you can take your phone and continually change the orientation and the backlight will toggle on and off with each change in orientation (it takes a short time to turn on/off and I’ve noticed that the first time during each call seems to takes the longest).
So all you need to do is download and install Touch InCall Screen Tweak – v1.0 (beta) from XDA which is the work of StevePritchard and 600GOL. It works on my Fuze and is reported as working on a Sprint Touch Pro. Great job guys – you’ve stepped up and solved something that is a nuisance to all of us and one that HTC doesn’t seem to think is a priority but real users do.
By the way, like the photo? Screen sleep – get it?:)
UPDATE: I’ve tested this on a Touch Pro and it works and it’s reported as working on the Diamond as well
UPDATE 2: v 1.01 released: Change – “In an attempt to “play nice” v1.0.0 waited for a particular powerstate before becoming active. This version doesn’t wait for anything before becoming active.”

During a call take the phone and hold it straight up/down (like phone to ear) and the screen should turn off…then turn hold it face up (like the palm of your hand facing the cieling) and the screen should turn back on.
Works for me. At first i couldn’t put down the “button screen” but on the next call i could. Don’t think it is an issue with this though. Very responsive.
Woo, finally a FIX to the only really problem I had with my Fuze.
Now if I can just get that new TP2 version of TF3D installed on my Fuze…
Okay, maybe I am missing something, but wasn’t the light sensor supposed to fulfill the role of this? Sort of like the proximity sensor on the iPhone.
If you get the Invalid Attachment message, go to XDA, and search “Touch InCallScreen Tweak” in the Search box. Choose the top link. This will bring you to the 5th page of the thread, so you wil need to click on the first post of the thread. You will see the cab file @ the bottom.
Link is now fixed. The cab is in the first post. (Edited by Steve @ 2:41am)
This great! Now all we have to do is get NRGZ28 to start cooking this in his ROMs!
@ lmre & anyone else who is “missing something”…
Unfortunately the hardware in these devices don’t allow for the light sensor to work correctly once the screen is off – which is probably why HTC didn’t include this functionality in the 1st place. Hopefully they’ll craft better designed boards in their future devices…
Unfortunately we can’t all have iphones BUT to be honest I prefer a real keyboard and the freedom of NOT having to pay a company if I wanted to develop something for their platform!
It works pretty well as is, but any problems please feel more than welcome to post on the XDA thread…
The TP2 will have a proxmity sensor so I think HTC learned their lesson. The light sensor is within the earpeice on the Fuze so it probably will never detect light properly since there is always a shadow on it.
Very cool. Works perfectly on my Fuze. Thank you again to this site for hooking us up with the best info from all the sources out there. Thanks David!
I think that this behavior is related to the HTC APM. Unfortunately you can’t disable it because it also controls smartouch. I posted a cab here that works for me on every ROM that I have tried it on. And it works with out monitoring the phone angle in a call. Hope it works for you.

This worked great on my HTC touch Pro. Does anyone know of a way yo keep the keypad up after making a call rather than showing Call Status?
Thank you
Great job on this app. Problem solved!
But I’m with Ron D about the hassle of not being able to keep the keypad open.
There must be a solution to this problem!!
Interesting that this fix is still an “aftermarket” thing. I have a FUZE and also HTC MAX 4G phone. The MAX 4G also goes to sleep if you put the phone up to your ear during the call – but as soon as you get it down on the table or just remove from the ear – it wakes up and allows you to use the touch screen.
I wonder why HTC did it right on MAX 4G and does not provide a fix for Fuze.
