I Got My TV Out Cable!
Ok – I’m not the first on the block with it but I want to just share a few pics of what the output performance is like even though I haven’t played with it too much yet. Oh and I paid for expedited shipping and it came standard so don’t waste your time or money with expedited (now I have to check if they credited me the difference). And rumor is that eXpansys is saying the cables are in stock but they are not (which is the situation I ran into – I ordered this on November 10th). By the way it’s just an envelope with a cable inside of a bag. The cable is like the adapter that came in the Fuze’s box that has a USB slot on the side for charging while using it.
Oh and as to the method of taking these pictures for you, I have a tv tuner in my computer but those of you with Windows Media Center may have learned that you cannot use composite cables into WMC (unless you have third party software which usually means you installed the tv card and didn’t get a computer with one built in). If you have a cable box or VCR you should be able to get past this. I don’t have either so I used a piece of freeware called DScaler and the Fuze had to be set to NTSC (but I don’t know what that means but PAL didn’t work with DScaler). I did try it on a 50″ tv and the results were the same – only NTSC and same quality (some shadowing was a little more noticeable)
OK enough chat, let’s get to the photos:
Results? A little washed and not as sharp as the Fuze’s screen. Look at the words on our website in the photo which are pretty unreadable even though they are readable on our Fuze. MDK had similar feedback in our forums concerning the quality of the images. I’ll play around with it more this weekend and report back:)

On a larger screen you can see that the quality is not nearly as sharp. Look at the Opera page – the words are not legible. It’s not that it’s awful – it’s just not as sharp of an image as it is on the Fuze.
I have envisioned ripping out the radio in my truck (it is a double din) and buying a monitor to fit in it and using the fuze as te music player/FM Tuner/DVD Player/GPS.
I am having trouble locating where my (single face) Pioneer deck is going to go so I can run the Audio into the back of it.
That’s my plans as soon as I master fiberglass.
We’ll get some technical info on this one also…
ALL RCA jacks (RED, White, Yellow) can only handle 480p resolution which is 640×480.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/480p
The Fuze is VGA, which is 480×640 (essentially the same) BUT its a much smaller screen… so the image on your fuze is REALLY smooth, but when you stretch it out, its not… which is why the pictures David took make sense…
Powerpoint is a much LOWER resolution program, because its planned to be projected and made bigger… SO thats really what the fuze is for… on-the-go PPT…

Any way we can get screenshots of google maps or a gps program similar? I have a 7″ monitor in my car and plan on using the fuze for gps (replacing my N95)Just curious if i would be able to read where i’m going on my screen.
Got mine today, too. I have to say that I’m impressed with the quality. Pictures look good. Opera was as expected, cumbersome. Youtube crashed on me once. This is what got me, though: Kinoma worked beautifully with it and my videos played back very nicely on a 32″ LCD. Even through Orb! Worth my $25.
Taken from Wikipedia:
The system used in North America is NTSC. Western Europe, Australia, and Eastern South America use PAL. Eastern Europe used SECAM, but switched to PAL…
That’s why PAL didn’t work on your TV, pal. (hehe)
I wouldn’t have expected the text to be readable like it is on the tilt. Hook any computer that has s-video output to a tv using RCA cables (converter) and you will get the same results. Yes, composite video (rca) “signals” should be 640×480, and you would think it would be the same result as the screen on the tilt, but I think perhaps that the DPI or something is different between the two?
either way, I don’t see it being practical to view webpages and such on the tv thru the tilt, though powerpoint I could see — but then, using powerpoint, it would generally be larger text anyway which I would imagine would be more readable.
Put up a youtube video, or something similar, and I would expect it to look just fine! (does it? haha)
you know those Wii cables that have higher resolution? I’m guessing it still doesn’t get anywhere above 640×480…maybe we should get rid of LCD’s and go back to the good old days where this stuff didn’t look so blurry (everything was equally fuzzy:) )
Pictures show but it’s not as bright or sharp…
Still not sure why I bought the cable – I think it was mostly because blackberry’s and iPhones can’t do it:)
Clint I would think on a 7″ screen you would be fine but I’ll try to take some shots tonight for you.
I ordered mine on 11/10. I was one of those people who got “skipped” even though it was supposed to be on a first come first serve basis. I even paid for overnight delivery. Now expansys says the cables won’t be due until Jan. 3. WOW. Pics that David K provided seem just okay. So I’m not AS excited about it anymore
I just ordered mine on 12/2 and yesterday I got an email from saying that it has been delayed by the manuf and they won’t be shipping until mid/end Dec. Then they proceeded to offer the eXpansys TV Out cable for TouchPro/MDA Vario IV which is the same just w/no charging option… No thanks, I’ll wait for what I paid for
Remember this post: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=165
the screen shots seem to be much clearer. I wonder why?
ex: http://www.fuzemobility.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/touchprotvout2.jpg
They zoomed in more in Opera to give it the appearance that the image was better. I was unzoomed. If I zoom in I can get readable text but it will not rival the Fuze’s resolution. Same XDA posting without any zooming in Opera: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2537901&postcount=25
See the difference? Detail is lost with the cable. It is fine for larger text but for the VGA small text it doesn’t work.
The larger your screen the less detail you will have with a 640×480 input. So we cant expect it to look crisp and detail on large screen. If you take 640×480 and put it on a 100in or 200 in screen the worse it will look.
I have the fuze, and have also recently got my video cable. I ordered mine from expansys as well and it took over a month to receive. The cable works very well, I mostly use it in my vehicle with my in-dash pioneer tv receiver. I can say that it looks great on that screen; I primarily use it for watching tv through slingbox, gps navigation, and the occasional wmv movie file. I also used it this last Sunday when I was tailgating before the football game, I hooked it up to a 13” tv to watch some nfl network through the slingbox and was pleased with the picture quality. I really like the cable’s design being able to charge the phone and use the cable at the same time.
got mine for xmas.. whoott… just need some help with CorePlayer and having a Blue Flickering on the tv screen. Any thought?
I don’t have the problem but I see the answer on XDA (the same posting you asked the question in already:) Go to the options then Video and go to ‘direct draw’ and make sure it is checked. it is for me and I don’t have any flickering.

my computer monitor actually has vga inputs and picture in picture ability, so that might be pretty cool to use that way…
