Facebook app for WinMo updates

image Anudeep wrote about the official launch of the Facebook app last week. A new update has been released, bringing a variety of fixes. “This version should help anyone that was getting the “cannot install due to insufficient privileges” error and it should also help with some hanging errors.” You can download the new CAB from the Microsoft site or on your phone directly. I personally have tried out the new application, and enjoy it much more than their simple mobile site, not to mention the additional features.

wow that is pretty quick of them to release and update again.

How does this app compare to Skybook? I don’t want facebook taking control of my contacts list, hence I’m wary of installing it…

My sentiments, which I posted on their blog.

Why in the world doesn’t the uninstall of the original app remove the two files that MUST be removed before you install the new version?

Better yet … the new app should detect the old one, and remove whatever is necessary for you. Apps from other companies can do this (ie Google) why wouldn’t an app from MICROSOFT do it?

Your post doesn’t mention where the files will be found on the device either. I am a die hard WinMo fan, but come on … I would never recommend a WinMo phone to a non-technical person for this exact reason.

Dumb.

I am setting up ActiveSync on Exch2007 at work for a global community 10,000+ users. As part of it I have an iPhone to test and debug as well as a host of WinMo phones. I love my WinMo, but the iPhone is SLICK. App Store and app installs are idiot proof. You press a button that says install, and a minute or two later you have an icon on your screen. The simplicity of Apple’s model is what got me ranting, that an app FROM MICROSOFT can’t handle updating itself.
