Beating the Bloat
This is one of the most frequently asked questions – how do I get rid of the AT&T crap. And here’s the answer courtesy of XDA- verbatim:
1.Wait for the tap here to customize.
2.Go through the screen alignment
3 skip or set pass word.
4.When it says your done and tap the screen to start WM get ready to reset
5. The absolute second you touch the screen hit the stylus reset.
6. When your device starts TF3d will NOT be in your today Items
7.Go to today settings and disable everything
8.Use file explorer to go to windows and find PT_Manila_Reg .cab and run it
9.Run MSFT_Security.cab
You must also install the HTC_PPC_opera_9 cab from windows if you want the internet tab of TF3D to work. If you’re already up running just go to settings-system-clear storage to get a second crack at it, but obviously all your work so far will be lost.
Thanks to XDA posted here and here
This is all expirimental so it’s at your own risk but tell us how it goes if you try it:)

If anyone is looking for the opera cab its named WM6_PPC_HTC_Opera9_WWE.CAB. Also if you want the top and bottom bars to not be green after doing this, you can choose the tabbed theme under the today screen options.
This also puts the youtube app where it should be, under opera.
-P
- Instructions work (all files are in Windows folder, MSFT_Security.cab is named something slightly longer, Opera file is renamed WM6_PPC_HTC_Opera9_WWE.cab)
- Cleans up the phone alot in non TouchFlow activities
- May notice even a speed-up in TouchFlow
This is awesome! I hate all the crap that AT&T wants to hit you with! I followed instructions, but found I had to hurry at hit the reset again when it rebooted and the screen came up saying wait why we install your apps. As soon as I saw that I hit the soft reboot again and all is well! Don know if that’s the prescribed way, but it seemed to work.
thanks,
Kevin
How about the Sprint Touch Pro? I’ve tried to get the bloat out, but it always installs anyway. I don’t use TF3D, but I do use (and like) Opera.
Thanks,
Todd
Thanks for this, I got most of it to work. I am left with the att icon on the TF3D bar on the bottom with some icons, but when I click inside the folder, they are empty. Is there anyway to totally remove all of it, including the icon on the TF3D bar? Also, I didn’t run the opera 9 cab, I installed the 9.5 beta, does anyone know how I can link the internet icon to this version?
louze – to get rid of the rogue tab just follow these instructions: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=203
Thanks, and happy holidays! When I run it, i get a run time error on my fuze and the details say “this application requires a newer version of the microsoft .net compact framework than the version installed on this device”. Any ideas on how to fix? thanks again!
I think you need to read this site from start to finish j/k:)
http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=470
honestly though, the tips started when the device came out (actually a few days before) so it’s not a bad idea to go through a bunch of older pages…enjoy. If you have more questions you can go into the forums as well.
what about G3 how will this affect that? i did this and now i dont have the G3 at the top of my screen
Ok two quick questions…
I like the Idea of doing this but 1) What are the risks involved
2) I have the phone unlocked to use it on Tmobile. Will this re-lock it to At&t?
This does in fact effect 3G in some kind of way. I successfully removed the bloat but this takes away your ability to use Cingular Video. You will get an error thst says you will need a 3G phone to perform this function. (or something like that) So it’s like something is missing that doesn’t allow it to recognize the Fuze as a 3G phone. Is there a fix for this? By the way, I do still have both 3G symbols on my phone. Thanks in advance!!
Meka- go to tools and then proxy and enable the hidden proxy. If you don’t see it there the cab is in our forums. You need the proxy to connect to AT&T websites.
Hey! Are you sure this affects 3G? I did everythng correctly, and yes, I had the “E” for edge, but after I received a phone call, it went back to 3G. But then, it went back to “E” the entire night. I did a full restore again, w/ att bloat, and all is up and running again.
Is it ieven worth it? I mean, you can go into “Windows” and remove the WMA ringtones, pics, and other stuff, but still be left w/ the att tabs on the menu. Is is so bad? Or is the Fuze that much fast w/ it removed?
In other words, are we all truly receiving 3G speeds? How would we really know?
Thanks everyone!!
I have done that several times, restoring the hidden proxy, but it doesn’t work. All of the 3G icons are there. They never go away. The problem is trying to access Cingular Video. It also removes the AT&T icons from the AT&T tab. Not sure what options and settings are being removed when you remove the “bloat” but I determined it’s not worth it.
Maybe no one notices it because people don’t normally use Cingular Video. Everything else works perfectly, this was the only problem I had with removing the bloat, that I noticed. Just wondered if anyone else had this problem or if anyone knew how to fix it. For the mean time I still have the bloat until I can figre this out.
Thanks Meka. To be honest I did the bloat free way, and the only real different (I disable tf3d btw), is the ‘in use’ storage is up about 46MB. The in use on the full load, w/ bloat, is 51.36, whereas the bloatfree was at 57.41…
So I think the only difference is if yu need more on board memory. I put everything on a 4GB micro, I don’t use tf3d, and I don’t mind the att bloatware, b/c it’s all in its own folder, which I dont see b/c I use QuickMenu, which is awesome!
Plus, I feel a bit safer knowing it is stock and secure. You never know if one little file should have been loaded out of the thousands in the ‘Windows’ folder.
Thanks again and good luck!
If you want AT&T video you need to enable the proxy. That means the internet will flow through AT&T’s network.
Removing the bloat remvoes some software and frees up memory. It also gets rid of some customizations that AT&T made that HTC did not make and usually (even things like themes) are not going to be as responsive as the ones the manfuacturer (HTC) created.
NP Thomas. I agree. I noticed an increase in storage but thats about it. I have no problems keeping the bloat on. I save everything to my SD memory card and haven’t had any problems. Although I’ll admit, it was very nice to see all of that memory come back after removing the bloat. Again, I have enabled the proxy several times but it doesn’t work. I will try it one more time to see if it I get lucky.
Meka, I’d just keeep it stock. winmo 6.5 will be out in a month or 2 anyways… i just don’t want to cook this rom for 6.5 on a fuze. I like the diamond 2 since it’s so thin… just hope I can sell the fuze on ebay and only have to chip in a little to get the diamond 2 since it’s going to at&t…
let me know…
Actually, I do have another issue fella’s. I downloaded a new battery icon… worked great, but kept the stock one in place… couldn’t get around it. So I deinstalled it, but it still stayed in the task bar!!
In addition, I have deinstalled programs, and the program removes itself, but a blank icon remains in its place, like in ‘Programs’ or wherever I had the icon.
I know people keep saying use SK Tools lite, but you need to pay for it, and the trial version (although not for 6.1 pro, but worked on my ppc) did not have an option to remove it. Plus, when I deinstalled SK Tools Lite, all the icons (Clean, Registry, and all their other icons that appear when you install) stayed in my start menu.
1. How can you remove the icons if they stay?
2. How can you remove a program (like the battery example) if it just won’t deinstall…
3. How can we remove all the WMA songs, ringtones, etc that we don’t want? That will free up a lot of space.
Thanks again fellas!! -T
Just an FYI if anyone cares….I am still not able to access Cingular Video. I removed the bloat again yesterday and re-enabled the proxy, again, and it allowed media net to work through IE but not Opera and still no CV. I think I’m just gonna give up. I mean I hardly use it but I just wanted it to work like it was supposed to. I will continue to play around with it and will surely post a solution if I find one. Thanks for the assistance.
If you want Opera to work with AT&T then go into the forums and go to the sectrion called Herg’s Corner and you’ll see he has the latest versions of Opera there and some of them intentionally have the AT&T proxy enabled in them. Opera has its own direction on whether to connect to a proxy.

The AT&T “bloatware” doesnt really seem to matter on THIS phone… on the TILT, yes but there is enough space on the Fuze that you shouldnt have any problems…
even so, its nice that ATT put them all on a single page so that they dont get in the way and the games/apps they have on there are useful, so I dont think i’d get rid of everything like i did on the tilt…
