What does this mean for XDA? Likely not too much as I suspect they’ll be the home of whoever is going to unlock WP7 just like it currently is for cooking. This just adds a higher level of annoyance for the general population since currently unlocking is for ROMs and this would be across the board for apps as well.

There are some other nice tidbits about the new Marketplace at Engadget (like the fact that Zune will be the desktop method to install apps) but the biggie is the inability to install your own apps. So, how furious are you? You can use a number scale, a series of colorful words…whatever you like just don’t swear without the usual #!@%%. I already know that you guys will love the fact that the only reason you use WM is because you can do whatever you want with it and now that’s about to be taken from you…let the rants begin.

Today we were greeted with the release of ThrottleLauncher 1.0 (final). This should give you an idea of what kind of smoothness and customization to expect but remember, it’s running a ThrottleLauncher theme. In other words you can install themes on top of ThrottleLauncher so you can mimic other UIs as well and you can install widgets also. And as a bonus, for first time users you are greeted with a tutorial when you first launch it.

You should load this to main memory for speed purposes and it supports all screen resolutions.

And here’s a little more showing how it really runs, including setting the shortcut links as desired.

As you can see, this skin is more than skin deep. The author is in France and last I checked he was sleeping:) But you may want to donate now so you get your download early. The XDA thread is located here and his site is located here. If you try it out share your thoughts. It looks amazing. it still doesn’t give you the integration that WP7 has but a lot of the look and feel is there. And remember to turn off TF3D before running this – you’ll need the memory:)

Bbonzz has just released Pocket Pizza which lets you make a pizza on your phone. It’s just like making a real pizza. First step is spreading some flour, then the dough comes out and you need to stretch it out. Then you can start to add ingredients and you get to choose where they are placed (so you can do mushrooms on one slice only:)). Once you’ve made your pie you need to bake it (and yes, it’s a brick oven with moving flames) and the ingredients will come out of the oven looking baked. And of course, then it’s time to cut the pie and you can choose the number of slices to cut it. And of course, with Bbonzz there are great visuals throughout the app. It’s a novelty app but I know some of you probably routinely make your own pies at home and this is a good way to do a dry run or you can also use it to see visualize what you are ordering before you call the pizza store to place your order. The free/light version only lets you add the ingredients to make a margarita pizza. The pro version (available for a small donation) has eighteen additional ingredients. And it’s available in VGA, WVGA, QVGA and WQVGA. The download is available here. Thanks Bbonzz for another satisfying app:)

You’re goal is to find enough words (or you can spell one eight letter word) to meet the goal before the clock expires and there are three levels of play which get harder as you get better. There’s no installation. Just download the file and run the .exe from your phone. There’s now VGA version available and if you are using a QVGA device there’s an updated version that has better game logic (so it gets harder after level 25), support high score support, game saving and cab installation. The downloads are available here.

If you use Google Sync to get your GMail then you’re probably not a happy camper today. This is the post from Google in their forums:

As many of you have noticed, Google Sync is having some difficulties due to an extended problem with one of our datacenters. This has been going on over the weekend, but it’s got significantly worse today, so I’m just letting everyone know what’s happening.
None of your information has been lost, and you will still be able to get your data through Sync, but you will find that Push isn’t working very well. This is because we’re batching up fetch requests to be able to cope with the traffic we’re seeing while this problem is ongoing. As soon as we’ve got the problem fixed, push should seamlessly start working properly again.
We’re working flat out to get this fixed, but unfortunately we don’t have an ETA at the moment. We’re doing everything we can to improve the situation in the meantime, and I’ll post here again when I have more news.
Finally, I want to apologise to everyone – we’re feeling your pain too, and we will get this sorted out as soon as we can.
Douglas

Update:

I should add that this is affecting Google Sync for iPhone, Windows Mobile and S60 – if you’re using another way to sync with Google (the BlackBerry sync application, Android sync and so on) you should be unaffected by this problem.

If you use Google for your email you should probably just not use Goog Sync for now and instead pull your email.

There’s hardly a simpler concept. You have a traffic light that goes from red to green and as soon as it hits green you want to press the pedal to the metal as fast as you can. It’s one of those simple games that you play a few times and pass it along to your friends over food and before you know it there are bragging rights to be had. One of the features is that it keeps track of the fastest scores online so you get to compete against other people playing the app which is another great feature that keeps you coming back. You can also track your personal scores as well so even if you don’t have a top global time you can try to see if your friends can dethrone you. Oh and the time it takes to go to green varies so you can’t just try to mentally count down.

This is simplicity at its best. There are no age requirements and nothing to learn…just an old fashion draw (and a good time killer:)) If you’re looking to compete (and yup, Bbonzz, that’s me right above you:)) then head over to Herm’s Software to give it a go for just $.99. If you don’t I’ll just presume you preemptively admitted defeat;)

It’s a minigolf game but when you start each hole you get a video preview of the hole (which you can go back or forward through), you can move your player side to side before hitting, control the angle and strength and it comes with very nice graphics to match. To keep things fresh there are 5 different worlds to play in for a total of 45 holes and 4 characters with upgradeable equipment. It’s available from Marketplace for $6.99. And here’s the PocketNow video so you can see it in action:
