AT&T Tilt II Video Unboxing
It wasn’t an easy last couple of days let me tell you. After being on the phone and harassing every AT&T employee I could find, I finally found a Regional Sales Manager that got me taken care of last night at 5pm! I was absolutely geeked that I was getting the AT&T Tilt II today. There was a slight problem though, AT&T Shipped it to the wrong address! So after all morning at Fed EX trying to figure out where it was and following after the Driver, I located my new AT&T Tilt II and headed back to the office where I shot the following video for you guys to get your mouth watering on the AT&T Tilt II!
First let me apologize for the crappy lighting, I was really pressed for time. I promise a heap more videos over the weekend and a full review by Monday. So kick back and relax as I unbox the New AT&T Tilt II by HTC, or otherwise known as the Touch Pro II!

@jasmithers: yes, it did come with one and it is on mine now. This is one awesome device. The fastest AT&T ROM to date. Got some bloat to it….
@midget tilt2: sorry man, I am new at videos. Doing the best I can. I will get better lighting and the screen fixed next go around.

Still glad I left ATT for Tmob, got my TP2 a few months ago. I see ATT still doesn’t include a leather pouch or wired headphones like Tmob does. This is the best WinMo phone yet!

@Doug — thanks for the reply!
I’m really on the fence about this phone — I’d be buying it no-commitment, and I’m wondering if the video performance is good enough to justify retiring my Fuze. After all, the two phone do have the same CPU running at the same clock speed, and the Fuze’s video frame rate was pretty bad. I guess new drivers could make a big difference…
When you get a chance, can you report back on the Tilt 2’s video performance? Also, the specs say the Tilt 2 has Flash Lite (both the plug-in and the player) — how’s the browsing experience?

It still doesn’t seem like they have the camera in front for me to use the AT&T Video share. I would, if they would just leave the camera in front. Overseas units have had the camera in front dating back farther than the Original Tilt. WHY?
Also, the Pure has 5MP camera. Why not the Tilt 2? Interesting that my Fuse has a 3.2MP. No upgrade?
Speakerphone is nice.
video share works differently, since it’s a one-way thing.
Basically, you’re sharing what you see, not you. Useful? Could be, but not worth the monthly payment.
So I stumbled upon something a little unnerving on xda – http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569015 – and it would be nice if one of you lucky ones could inspect your phone to see if the design is consistent with the Euros in this regard. If so, this is story-worthy, definitely.
I didn’t see one, but checking just to be sure, screen protector included this time (like the fuze)?
Yeah if someone could provide a trusted source of inexpensive but nice screen protectors, batteries (OEM and higher capacity), slim teenie tiny 3.5mm adapters and holsters and such, that would be appreciated.
Hi Doug:
Any word on that video review you promised? Since I can’t get my Tilt2 yet, I have to live vicariously through you ![]()
Thanks!
I’ve played with a few demo units out here but no corporate stores will sell them yet. The phone seems nice. About the same size as an iPhone but a little thicker.
I just can’t justify retiring my Fuze for this device. Sure if it was free but spending $300+ for a larger screen is uneasy for me. If the Tilt2 had a faster processor or more memory or something new, I’d jump aboard.
The tilt2 is basically a Fuze in new housing.
Well not entirely. You’ve read the reviews or the Wikipedia page and already know the numbers but let me throw some first-glance noticeable stuff about this phone versus the Fuze at you.
Firstly those extra pixels which you dismiss as not being worth it, well, nevermind, you did play with demos yourself but to me they feel great and just that improvement alone is worth the cash and the couple millimeters of relative slenderness are also a nice welcome (weight notwithstanding). Yes it’s thicker than the iphone but the Pure isn’t if you don’t care about hard keyboards.
I didn’t benchmark the thing but when I play xvid/divx video on TCPMP with no settings tweaks I’m getting very smooth playback of videos that would stutter intolerably on the Fuze. Something’s responsible for that and it could be hardware. The new Manila is better, Sense 2.5 if you flash a rom with it is excellent with some surprises on landscape.
The speaker is also substantially improved. Sounds almost like a real speaker. That’s nice. When my phone rang and then gave me a reminder notification I didn’t recognize that it was my phone because it sounded like a stereo not a tin can. Didn’t try speakerphoning but I imagine it’s a lot better with this one, based on the marketing at least.
The stock battery packs an extra 160mAh, though I guess you’d come out about even with the larger screen to feed which again is great.
The radio seems about the same, maybe a bit better as I still haven’t had one dropped call since I got it, but I don’t get reception in my elevator as with the Fuze but unlike the first Tilt which had a bar. This could be unrelated and a fluke but on speed tests I’m seeing 1500kbit/s which is about double what I typically got in Manhattan. But I don’t know why that would be related.
GPS seems to be a lot better. I get a lock from a cold start in ten to thirty seconds in NYC including on side streets or in a taxi. Also at least with BeeLineGPS the lag seems improved and it’s more aware of how fast I’m walking consistently without dropping down to zero a lot when in the city. Could be my imagination though, having been waiting for this phone for so long.
In case you care you got a larger keyboard.
Also they put a zoom slider thing a la Opera’s zoom slider right below the screen.
Downsides include a slightly different keymap and key alignment that will take a week to acclimate to. It’s noticeably heavier. It’s expensive. It’s really expensive if you don’t fire up a new two year contract which also sucks if you’re having second thoughts about AT&T, something which is especially understandable if you live in Manhattan at least. Another downside is you’ll need another holster, if you like extra batteries you’ll have to get new batteries, not sure where to go for either (yet).
No more DPad but the DPad sucked anyway.
But the first thing one ought to do when they get this phone is get hardspl on it and flash a custom rom. I’ll go into that in detail on a new site i’m gonna unveil shortly.
Not sure if you were joking or not, taking some kind of smartass tone with me or if you do in fact have a vague idea of how badass my material is but either way buddy it will blow your mind.
When it’s ready. Not ready yet.
Hey, I wasn’t being a smart ass, sorry if it sounded that way. I was being serious
I really am excited to see what you have in the works. This site is one of very few that I am always so excited to see what’s new.
I got the Tilt on Monday. If you’re a Fuze user going to the Tilt 2, you’ll be mis-typing a lot. The FN key and Caps are different than the Fuze.
I think Tilt to Tilt 2 customers won’t have an issue.
I was on the fence for the Pure with the 5MP camera. But ended up with the Tilt 2 because of the keyboard and speakerphone, being a business user.
Office Communicator Mobile works great. Perfect screen size.
Some weird quirks, but I think it’s me getting used to WinMo 6.5.

@Doug Smith –
Cool video — thanks!
The documentation on the AT&T Business site says that the package contains a screen protector. After you opened up all the sealed bags, had you found one, or was it absent?
