When you sign up the deal requires a data plan in order to complete the transaction. I called AT&T and they told me I can add/delete options (including data) as much as I like, as long as I keep the contract for 24 months. Technically, there is nothing wrong with them. However, often with ATT, the warranty is only good for like 30 or 90 days, as opposed to a whole year.
