Add an Application Short Cut to the Internet Tab

Everyone seemed to have had a good time changing their internet default page on the internet tab so I figured lets keep a good thing going. If you see the picture on the right you’ll see a YouTube link on my internet tab. That’s not a shortcut to the website – that actually launches my YouTube app. So, how do you do it? Pretty simple actually (hope you guys have found this stuff is easier than it seems). Just as before simply use File Explorer to navigate to \Application Data\Manila and find a file called “InternetPortal-en-US.xml” and copy that to your PC (you may need to move it to your Storage Card since your PC over ActiveSync may not find this directory). Open notepad and drop that file into it and you’ll see the text of that file. On the Notepad you’ll see “<OperatorLinks>” twice with a space between. In between those two insert:

<Link Text=”YouTube”
Executable=”\windows\youtube.exe”
ImagePath=”\Windows\youtube.jpg”/>

[I gave you guys a pic] Now save the file on your desktop (remembering not to change the format). Now jump here and download the YouTube logo from the link (keep the name as youtube.jpg) and save that pic to your Fuze’s windows directory. Now take that xml file from your PC and replace the one on your Fuze using Total Commander (I use the copy/move feature and overwrite the existing file).  Now go to your tab and look at how pretty and functional it is:)

You can add a shortcut to any application now, not just YouTube. Simply follow the same format so that the link in the text points to the right application and photo location and you’re set.

Thanks to ITNV of XDA.

wow it was easier than it seems!! i got confused i thought i needed to use total commander which i thought would be more complicated but i actually didnt need to. thanks

I already learned this trick from XDA developers, but I had another question which they can’t answer. I created links under the “OperatorLinks” section for Facebook and MySpace. I made these link to the acutal websites (not programs). And I gave the custom icons by linking them to .jpg files. However, they don’t show up in the “Favorites” once I launch Opera. Is there anyway to make Operator links show up both in TouchFlo 3D and in favorites? this would be Great! Thanks…

I got everything working, except the youtube.jpg. I cannot get it to copy into the windows folder. I don’t know why.

screech- just put it in a different directory then and change the imagepath line to reflect where ever you can put it

Can anyone help with my question?

MMD if you are willing to forego the picture then just add a bookmark to Opera and it sohuld put the bookmark into both the app and TF3D. You don’t need to do all of the facny stuff in this post…

Yea, I knew I could do it that way. But I was just hoping one of the experts on here would know of a way to make bookmarks show up in both places if I wanted to use the fancy pictures. But thanks anyway though…LOL

I’ve been busy messing around with the rest of this stuff (like getting tv recordngs onto my Fuze:) ) but try playing atound with the xml
try NavigatURL=”http://youtube.com”
ImagePath=”\Windows\youtube.jpg’/”

Has anyone tried this with something other than the youtube app? I tried it using PIE instead of youtube but I get youtube anyway.

ok quick question, in the application data folder i dont have any folder named manila, i have hergs htc black which i love but i know it deletes and/or replaces the manila files so i think that is why it is not there???…either way…is there any other way to acess the file to edit it???…Thank you.

Can you find a file called “InternetPortal-en-US.xml” in the HTC Black folder? Even if you’re using a theme I presume most of these files still exist in some form (they were just modified for the theme) so that’s the file you’re hunting for.

got it, it was in my windows folder?? idk either…thanks for everthing..your posts are all really helpful, thank you

[...] it so that your Opera home page would be the default page for the TF3D tab  and then we added a program shortcut to the tab.Finally we changed the default browser TF3D uses. I think we’ve done enough damage [...]

Is it still possible to do this if you’ve installed herg’s theme (found here http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1432)? I was able to find the xml file in the \Windows folder, but when I modify it, it doesn’t change anything. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

i have to look at that idlesysop

im having the same troubles.. i have the fuzeberry cfc . i found the xml file in the windows directory and made the changes but it did not do anything.. i am trying to add the new facebook app.. if anyone can help me it would be great!!!!!!

For all of these internet tweaks, I’ve had to use Total Commander on my phone, because that file would not appear on my phone from my computer (I just go to the start menu, click Computer, then click my device, etc.) I even set folders to show hidden files… But it wasn’t there. Only on my phone could I see it. But I just realized it’s there, shown on my computer now… maybe it is because I used TotalCommander to edit the file and unchecked “Read Only”?

Um, anyway, my questions are these – First, where the heck did THAT app come from? I didn’t even know I have it!
Second, where exactly is my windows directory? I’ve tried moving the youtube.jpg pic to many places, but it won’t show on my phone.

Thanks guys!
